abstract

background: patients with chronic stable angina often have a state of sympathetic hyperactivity. it is considered associated with myocardial ischemia and disappears after ischemia elimination. the aim of this study was to investigate the changes in heart rate variability parameters, a noninvasive technique for the evaluation of the autonomic nervous system activity, after successful revascularization in these patients to evaluate this theory. methods: the patients were enrolled among those who underwent successful percutaneous coronary intervention. short- term heart rate variability analyses of all the patients were obtained, and time-domain indices (standard deviation of normal- to-normal intervals [sdnn], standard deviation of differences of successive r-r intervals [sdsd], root-mean square differences of successive r-r intervals [rmssd], percentage of r-r intervals differing > 10 ms from the preceding one [ pnn 10 percentage of r-r intervals differing > 20 ms from the preceding one [pnn20 ], percentage of r-r intervals differing > 30 ms from the preceding one [ pnn 30] percentage of r-r intervals differing > 40 ms from the preceding one [ pnn 40], percentage of r-r intervals differing > 50 ms from the preceding one [pnn 50 percentage of r-r intervals differing > 60 ms from the preceding one [ pnn 60 percentage of r-r intervals differing > 70 ms from the preceding one [ pnn 70]) were analyzed. all the measurements were made before and after percutaneous coronary intervention. results: this study included 64 patients, comprising 27 men and 37 women at a mean age of 56.8 ± 9.1 years. there was a significant difference only between pre- and post-revascularization sdnn (27.5 ± 19.72 vs. 41 ± 41.4; p value = 0.013). the other parameters showed no significant differences after successful coronary intervention. conclusion: our data indicate that the increase in sdnn in patients with stable angina pectoris undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention seems to be prominent.

Changes in Heart Rate Variability Parameters after Elective Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

BACKGROUND Patients with chronic stable angina often have a state of sympathetic hyperactivity. It is considered associated with myocardial ischemia and disappears after ischemia elimination. Effect of Exercise Training on Heart Rate Variability in Patients with Heart Failure After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Background: This study aims to evaluate the effect of exercise training on heart rate variability (HRV) and to determine the correlation between parameters of HRV and the ejection fraction in patients with heart failure after percutaneous coronary intervention.Material and Methods: Fifty patients with left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 40% undergone percutaneous coronary intervention were r...

Same day discharge after elective percutaneous coronary intervention.

Same-day percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a reality with modern interventional equipment and pharmaceutical agents. Elective PCI is rarely an inpatient procedure and is now predominantly considered an outpatient procedure. Approaches to safely manage elective patients through same-day PCI have been well described in the literature and demonstrate no safety signal compared with overni...

Dynamic changes in purine catabolism in patients with acute coronary syndrome that underwent percutaneous coronary intervention

Background: Cardiovascular diseases are global problems. They are causes of death in about 43% of people worldwide and may become the most widespread reason of death by 2020. The prognosis is directly dependent to immediate diagnosis and on time treatment. Introduction of new biochemical markers as the early diagnosis of complications after coronary revascularization is very important in this p...

Prolonged decrease in heart rate variability after elective hip arthroplasty.

The pattern of postoperative heart rate variability may provide insight into the response of the autonomic nervous system to anaesthesia and surgery. We have obtained spectral (fast Fourier transform) and non-spectral indices of heart rate variability from electrocardiographic recordings, sampled during continuous perioperative Holter monitoring in 15 otherwise healthy patients with an uncompli...

Effect of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty on QT dispersion and heart rate variability parameters

BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to analyse parameters reflecting the sympathovagal control of ventricular depolarisation and repolarisation [heart rate variability (HRV) and QT interval dispersion (QTd)] in patients undergoing elective percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), and determine whether HRV correlates with QT dispersion parameters. METHODS The study consisted of 2...
